A recent Ad Age article (Mars Axes Snack Chief as Snickers Sales Plummet) reported shake-ups at Mars and the agencies that handle its advertising following sales drops for some of their brands including an 11% drop in sales for Snickers.
I was curious as to what the top selling candy brands were and turned up this Top 10 from Ask Men. There is some text that accompanies each bar in the list that I have not included. (Skittles, the bacon of candy in my opinion, didn't make the list.)
Slogan: Hungry? Grab a Snickers.
2. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
Slogan: There's no wrong way to eat a Reese's.
3. Kit Kat
Slogan: Have a break, have a Kit Kat.
Slogan: Nothin' like a Butterfinger.
5. Milky Way
Slogan: If only all good things could last this long.
6. 3 Musketeers
Slogan: Big on chocolate, not on fat.
7. Baby Ruth
Slogan: The real deal.
Slogan: M&Ms melt in your mouth, not in your hand.
9. Oh Henry!
Slogan: Oh hungry?
10. Hershey Bar
Slogan: A sweet to eat.
This Brandweek article describes how Hershey's upstart, Take 5 is positioning itself to take on Snickers foe the "greatest candybar". I like the Take 5 tv spots and site, Sickers by contrast has become a bore.

"I'm a Scientologist baby, so why don't you kill me..."
That's right, I recently learned that Beck is a Scientologist. That information perplexes me. Can Scientologists eat candy? Beck's grandfather, Al Hasen was a NY Artist and part of the Fluxus movemet. He created a large number of collages with Hershey Bar wrappers that played off of the "her" and "she" embedded in the name.
