Chris Anderson's ( editor-in-chief of Wired Magazine) much anticipated book The Long Tail is out. The result, he explains, of unlimited inventory and digital distribution is that we move from a culture of hits to a culture of niches. You can see it dramatically in music sales. As more new and past music becomes easily available you see less artists, albums and songs becoming monster hits. Individual taste is catered to more granularly.
