That whiney, sucking sound all around Manhattan...

is the sound of Citi pulling millions of dollors of advertising. It appears that they are no longer willing to finance the chuckles you get from the advertising's pithy lines.

AdvertisingAge reports:
The amount being pulled from the market could be as high as $120 million. That's how much the bank laid out in cable, online and magazines in the second half of 2005.

A friend at a prestigious print publiation told me that Citi had dropped a bomb on them and pulled their ad dollars. I have been keeping an eye on Gawker for days waiting to hear what the flap was about. It turns out it is a much, much bigger bomb than I had expected.
