Why you kids pickin' on Daniel Craig?

There has been a lot of contention over the choice of Daniel Craig as the next 007.
Can one of my Brit mates explain this?

I thought he was great in Layer Cake. (Munich as well)

There are some mean spirited responses to his selection.

Here is the trailer for Casino Royale. You decide.

I can't explain it really, though I have little respect for the British public's rationality in this knee-jerk culture. Anyway, I don't know if it's just the British Bond fan-base that's in uproar though?

But I'd say this, in the promo shots and trailers, he looks more like he's sucking a picked egg than he's about to say "Bond. James Bond". In the shots where he's in action, it looks spectacular. I'm waiting to see and I know I'll watch it happily and enjoy it more than Dalton or Brosnon. Let's face it, Moore ruined it with his dwarfish comedy slapstick (no-one comments that Flemming didn't write Bond as a dwarf) and it's been Martini Cartoon GI Joe ever since.

I spent some time a couple of months ago looking into the CraigNotBond.com website and concluded with a single glance that it was entirely without merit. There wasn't a single reasoned argument on there. It's been taken down now anyway.

There is a kindergarten of thought that the whole anti-Craig movement was set up or at least fuelled (read financed) by the publicity machine. Who knows? People now feel that they have the right to have a say in anything and as you pointed out the other day, it's harder to filter the crap out from all the noise we're bombarded with. Combine that with the fact that a vast majority of internet users probably aren't qualified to apply that filter in the first place, and you have the easy means to spread anger against Craig.

I don't think that's a particularly Brit-orientated response, but I am British so take that.

So in short, having read what I've written and had 30 seconds to consider it, the answer is that the Brits are only just getting Broadband en-masse and as such they're still acting like infants.
