The $100 Laptop = porn for the underprivileged

The $100 Laptop project (spearheaded by MITs Nicholas Negroponte) has apparently been a huge success when it comes to bringing porn to underprivileged children.

Intel, initialy reluctent to be a part of the project is so impressed that they'v decided to get inolved.

Foie Gras Survey: Michael Jordan's

Last week I went to Michael Jordon's Steakhous. The Foie Gras appetitzer was seared, accompanied by toast and figs. The piece of foie gras was excellent and perfectly seared but the toast was so-so and the figs weren't very exciting so I'm going to give it a 6.5.

Last night I went BLT Fish and had the chef's signature dish, the Crispy Red Snapper “Cantonese Style”. Probably the best piece of fish I've ever eated.

Friends and I quote this so often I thought I should finally post it on TSF. This kid is a real piece of work.

Chart Gallery

Over the past few months I have gone from being a causal to a die-hard reader of The Economist. On the online edition I just found the "chart gallery" section. There are some bite size gems in there.

Sexual Well-Being

Sexul Well-Being is what they call vibrator sales on

The range of products available is pretty impressive considering the destiation site is so pedestrian and public but the fun part is the reviews. For example, this one, from the page I screen grabbed below.

Not powerful enough, drains batteries quickly, not that fun.
I tried to be fair in my assessment of this product. You might think otherwise about it, but if you are a beginner, I guess it would be a good starter vibe. However I'm more inclined to get something else.
-- Amanda-Lynn, Huntsville, AL on December 27, 2006

Amanda-Lynn of Huntsville, AL didn't bother to click anonymous wen she posted her review. Based on the date of her post she didn't get what she wanted for Christmas either. Not even close.

Here's another page with a great assortment of reviews.

This is one of my favorities from that page:
I purchased the first version of this vibrator back in the mid 1990's. It took about 10 years of pretty much DAILY use before the motor finally gave way. Luckily, I had purchased a backup, which is this version of the same item. The only attachment that has ever worked for me is the grapes (the small round balls), but OMG - it surely does work! This is DEFINITELY worth the investment.

Nutritional Disinformation

The steady flow of unstable, contradicting, confusing and ever changing nutrition "fact" is truly amazing.

From BBC news, 1 reason to eat grapefruit ad 1 reason not to on identical looking pages.

Crisis of Credibility: Judges behaving badly

Judges behaving badly from The Economist.

Here are a couple of gems:

Albany city judge, William Carter, in New York, censored for his “utterly inexcusable” conduct after jumping down from the bench during a trial, shedding his robes and apparently challenging a defendant to a fist-fight. Another time, he suggested that the police “thump the shit out” of an allegedly disrespectful defendant. Mr Carter wasn't carrying a gun; many judges now do.

In Florida, Charles Greene, chief criminal judge in Broward County, had to step down after describing a trial for attempted murder involving minority defendants and witnesses as “NHI” (No Humans Involved).

In Colorado, a (male) judge resigned after admitting having sex with a (female) prosecutor in his chambers.

In California, a former judge was jailed for 27 months for downloading child pornographyIn Oklahoma Donald Thompson, a judge for more than 20 years, was jailed for four years for indecent exposure and using a “penis pump” to masturbate during trials.

Barclay's Spots

I saw these at ResFest a few years ago, I really dig these. They don't really sell me on the bank but they're amusing.

Cosmic mood-swings
A piece from The Economist on a study to be conducted by the European Space Agency (ESA) to study the type of mental stress and disorder experienced by astronauts during space travel.

Muslim Swimwear

Ladies and gentlemen... the BURKINI

There was a photspread featuring the Burkini in the laest issue of Marie Claire (better photos than any I could find online). I'm not sure if the Muslim world is realy interested in this. The rest of the world could use them to live out smurf fetish fantasies.

Enter Snadman

Holy Diver

It's easy to dismss this as comic bafoonery but there is probably a lesson in creative listening and aesthetic style-shifting here. What's probably missing is the help of a collaborator that cold have shaped this into something more powerful and interesting. Look at what the colaborative efforts of Jack White & Loretta Lynn or paul Simon & Brian Eno or Rick Rubin & Johny Cash producered. OK. Maybe this is just a silly hoot.

Here is Mr Boone losing his wig.

Where on earth?

I'm wrapping up a very chillaxin week on the Jersey Shore. Saw the fireworks in the Atlantic Highlands from the comfort of OZ's beautiful sailboat. Ready to head back to NYC ad get back at it. Who knows, maybe I will even start blogging again. Hope everyone had a great 4th... I did.
