On Language: Steven Pinker

Another excellent talk from the Ted Confrerence. You can browse through all of the videos in the TED Talks section of the site.

Cognitive scientist Steven Pinker talks about the effects of sentence structure on meaning and the human social interaction. Fantastic!

I highly recommend Pinker's How the Mind Works. He begins the book with discussions of the physiology of the human hand and visual system and by the end is covering off on human values and emotions. The way it builds and pays-off is one of the most amazing reading experiences I've ever had. It's worth working through the 600 pages in as shot a period of time as possible.

I just found this on Authors@Google. Steven Pinker discussing, at length (75 minutes) ideas from "The Stuff of Thought".
