Lush Window Display, London

Is this really any way to sell floral scented bath balls?

Twenty-six-year-old British performance artist, Alice Newstead, was hired by Lush beauty products to hang by hooks through her skin in the window of the Lush store on Regent Street in London.

Seems to me to be a "right in the feelings" moment.

Performance artist??? Jesus christ, you have to be fucking kidding me.
I think she needs to take two weeks off, and then just quit...

I do get the sense that she would be doing what she is doing in her basement by herself regardless of whether or not she had an audience.

Isn't the hook n flesh thing a sex fetish/S&M thing????

Is it performance art just because you move it from fetish lifestyle context to art context? Which is what Duchamp did. But this isn't even an art context, its a retail window dispay...

I just don't know anymore.

I don't even want to begin to describe what I'm doing in my basement, but from now on, I'm going to call it performance art.

I will say she has given me some odd ideas for christmas ornaments this year.

It must be terrible to hang in a window. And it looks like it hurts, but why don't? Maybe it'll show how cruel the world is. I won't do the same thing, but I have to say. I never saw such a brave women before!
Respect!
